Hello Everyone,
Did you know it's the peak of citrus season? There’s a wide variety of citrus available right now, from oranges and mandarins to grapefruits and lemons. Plus, apples are still in season too.
While some of your favorite fruits like berries, grapes, and melons aren't in season, it's really important to enjoy the fruits and vegetables that are in season. They’re packed with more nutrients and honestly, they just taste so much better when they're in season.
Trust me, ditch the grocery store produce and shop at farmer’s markets… life changing!
In my last post, I shared my big farmer's market grocery haul. Now, I’m excited to show you a quick and easy fresh juice recipe using a variety of fruits I picked up at the market this week.
But first, can we have a moment for these mandarins….
A bag full of mandarins.
Last week, the mandarins were so good that I knew I had to grab three times as many—they were that good! A really good healthy snack, plus packed with vitamin C to give that immune system a boost.
The large, bumpy ones are known as Golden Nugget Mandarins.
Golden Nugget mandarins are sweet with a touch of tang, and their juiciness can vary. The flesh is thick and bumpy, but they’re easy to peel and packed with juicy segments.
My flavor is still the other mandarins.

Did you know that at the farmer’s market, they sometimes offer bagged fruit that may not be the most perfect-looking, or they have a surplus of a certain variety they need to sell? Or maybe it's the end of the market day. Whatever the reason, you can often find discounted bags of fruit!
I found discounted fruit bags with apples, oranges, lemons, and other fruits for just $5 a bag! These are perfect for juicing.
They might not be the most beautiful but just cut around the imperfect spots and juice it! I also love using discounted bagged fruit for baking since most of it is super ripe and needs to be consumed within a few days anyway.
You don’t need a fancy juicer to get started. I don’t have one myself—I just use a good old blender and a mesh strainer. While a juicer will get the maximum amount of juice from the fruit, this method works great if you don’t have one. You can also use a nut bag to strain the juice.
I find it super quick with a blender and strainer. It’s so fast and easy that I make fresh juice a few times a day, and the clean-up is a breeze!
You don’t need to cut up a ton of fruit to make one batch of juice. The recipe below is for a 32oz mason jar size.
Fresh Orange Fruit Juice Recipe
Serving Size: 32oz
(4) Naval oranges
(2) Apples (I used fuji apples)
(1) large Carrot
1-inch piece Fresh ginger
2 tsp ground turmeric
1/2 lemon, peeled
1/2 cup water (I used spring water)
Directions:
Peel the oranges and cut them into chunks.
Peel the ginger.
Core the apples and cut them into chunks.
Cut the carrots into chunks.
Peel the lemon, then cut it in half.
Add everything (except the turmeric) to a high-speed blender.
Blend on high until smooth and liquid.
Hold the strainer or nut bag over a pitcher or bowl to capture the juice.
Pour the juice through a mesh strainer or nut bag to strain out the pulp.
Pour juice into mason jar, then add ground turmeric and pitch of black pepper.
Close lid of jar, then shake well to incorporate the ground turmeric. I chose not to use fresh turmeric because it would strain the blender, but feel free to use fresh turmeric.
Juice will last in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Enjoy!
Stay tuned for the next newsletter, where I'll be sharing a recipe featuring some of the ingredients I picked up at the farmer’s market! I’m thinking a salad recipe…
Much love,
-Steph
